July’s Yogis of the Month are Debbie Copeland and her son Josh.

Debbie and Josh have been nominated by Dana, our Family Yoga Teacher.

Debbie and Josh are regulars at our family workshops. They are both always very creative when doing partner yoga and really have fun and tune in together.  Josh particularly always looks such a relaxed ‘lizard’ when doing his favourite pose, ‘lizard on the rock’.

It’s been really noticeable how Josh is starting to find his calm space at the end relaxation and it’s a magical thing to witness. It’s a true privilege to teach them both and offer a space for them to nurture this special time together.

Say hello to our Yogis of the Month…

Name: Debbie and Josh

How and why did you find your way on to the mat? I started doing yoga about 20 years ago when I had back ache. I carried on and have done lots of different styles over the years with some lovely instructors including pregnancy yoga. I find it hard to fit in regular classes around family and work plus my husband works away but I do it when I can and also do some yoga at home. I thought the family yoga was a great way to get some practice in.

How did you feel after your first yoga class at Rosieglo Yoga? I wanted to do family yoga and thought it would be good for my son. I was so nervous that my boisterous 5 year old would not sit still!! I still can’t believe how much he enjoyed that first lesson but found it really difficult to keep still – especially in the relaxation at the end!!

Have you noticed any benefits or changes in yourself since practising yoga?  We have now been doing family yoga for a year and Josh has learned how to relax and be still. It’s nice that we have something we can do together. He loves the poses we do together and often asks to do them at home. After the class we both feel more chilled and always look forward to our monthly classes.

What do you like most about practising at Rosieglo Yoga? The venue is lovely and calming. Dana is great with children and plans the classes around things that will interest them while pushing them to do things they find challenging.

What’s your favourite pose at the moment or what are you enjoying most?  It would have to be my son’s favourite- Lizard and rock. We both find it relaxing and quite often do it at home to relax.

What words of wisdom would you share with someone who is new to yoga or thinking of giving it a go? I love yoga. I can’t imagine my life without it. It’s great for fitness and relaxation. It has helped me physically and mentally throughout my life. I am so pleased my son loves it too. I think for anyone considering family yoga then try it. Even if you have a lively child – they can learn to be still and relax.
