May’s Yogi of the Month is Ruth Owen-Overton

Ruth has been jointly nominated by our teachers Rosie Wooler, Kathryn Ball and Rosie Marsland – a testament to her varied practise and willingness to try different classes.

We’ve all noticed her commitment and dedication to building a regular practise and really love her approach to mixing it up.

In May Ruth came to 9 classes in total across 5 different classes ranging from Beginners to Sports Yoga.  She remains inquisitive and mindful of her own body and how it responds which is key in building a connection in any yoga practise.

She then applies her yoga learnings to her cycling and her every day making a conscious effort to find more space in the body and mind.  That’s what it’s all about.

Say hello to our Yogi of the Month…

Name: Ruth Owen-Overton

How and why did you find your way on to the mat? Three reasons: The desire to be as flexible as possible going into old age. Wanting to stay injury free as much as possible. Learning something new on a long/term basis.

How did you feel after your first yoga class at Rosieglo Yoga?  Loved it. I knew I would be truly challenged physically but the difference following a class is astonishing for me.

Have you noticed any benefits or changes in yourself since practising yoga? I get injured less often. I am kinder and more patient with myself. I don’t self-criticise anything like as much (mostly) Some days I’m better (more flexible) than others but I know each time I go My body will be better for this session.

What do you like most about practising at Rosieglo Yoga? The teachers are wonderful, kind, gentle and encouraging and very slender which is a pain as you all look so beautiful. I love the small classes too.

What’s your favourite pose at the moment or what are you enjoying most? The plank, I think. I know it’s making my core stronger. And I can do this, everything else is work in progress …

What words of wisdom would you share with someone who is new to yoga or thinking of giving it a go? Do it!  And don’t give up on it. Like I did for 30 years. It’s an hour of personal, gentle focus on you. And you’ll always feel better for giving yourself that time to enjoy a class.
