January’s Yogi of the Month is Harriet Barnett.

Harriet has only recently joined Rosieglo and comes to our Monday morning Beginner’s class.

What has struck me about Harriet is her approach to her yoga practise.  She may be quite new to yoga but she has the soul of a yogi!

She fully connects with her practise and totally commits, mind, body and breath.  She works mindfully and with patience – it’s a joy to see.

Say hello to our Yogi of the Month.

Name: Harriet Barnett.

How and why did you find your way on to the mat?

As long as I can remember, I’ve had a yearning towards yoga. Pursuing mindfulness, meditation and holistic therapies to calm my mind and connect my soul.  Yoga has connected all these different paths together.

How did you feel after your first yoga class at Rosieglo Yoga?

After only a small amount of time on my mat, I feel uplifted, warm, full of positivity and above all connected, grounded and happy.

Have you noticed any benefits or changes in yourself since practising yoga?

My mind is calmer and clearer, my heart is open and receptive to positive energy, my soul is smiling and beaming with light.  My body feels supple, light in weight and more balanced

What do you like most about practising at Rosieglo Yoga?

Rosieglo is a hidden gem.  Warm, inviting, a haven.  A sanctuary to let it go, let it be and open up.

What’s your favourite pose at the moment or what are you enjoying most?

I’m overweight, weak in body and wobbly in the mind.  Already I have seen progression in all areas of being holistic, more resilient, receptive, focused, stability in my posture and awareness of how my body feels. Postures or asanas require focus, letting go and relaxing into the movement all at the same time.  The flow and connection of sequences come surprisingly quickly.

What words of wisdom would you share with someone who is new to yoga or thinking of giving it a go?

Give yoga a whirl.  Nothing life changing happens within your comfort zone!  You may ask yourself ‘what if I fall?’.  And my reply to you as a new yogi would be, ‘But my darling, what if you fly?’
