September’s Yogi of the Month is Richard Butler.

Richard has been nominated by our Monday evening teacher Reut for his consistent practise and fab attitude. He’s always up for something new, does it with a laugh and doesn’t take things too seriously – perfect attitude for a class at Rosieglo :)

Say hello to our Yogi of the Month…

Name: Richard Butler

How and why did you find your way on to the mat? Yoga was suggested by a McTimoney chiropractor who had been treating me for numerous ailments. It was a possible solution to ongoing back problems and stress. It certainly helped with both.

How did you feel after your first yoga class at Rosieglo Yoga? Tired, I have tendency to fall asleep during savasana. It certainly felt like a good thing to do so I was immediately keen to try and stick to regular practice.

Have you noticed any benefits or changes in yourself since practising yoga?   It’s helped my back and my core strength. Hopefully I’m slightly more flexible than I used to be however I’m still pretty rigid. I find all the folded positions a challenge. When everyone is folded over I may as well be sat upright, but my hamstrings still feel like they’re going to snap.

What do you like most about practising at Rosieglo Yoga? The teachers. I’ve attend a few different classes run by various teachers and they’re all different but always in a good way.  I like the fact they all try to ensure that you are progressing by giving you the option to try something different or push yourself a bit further. They recognise that everyone in the class is different and that we all find different elements of a class challenging.

What’s your favourite pose at the moment or what are you enjoying most? I don’t think I have a favourite pose. But really enjoy the Sun Salutation. After a chat with Reut I have started practising it every morning. I really enjoy focusing on the repetition of the movements. I’ve only been doing it a while but it’s a good way to start the day.

What words of wisdom would you share with someone who is new to yoga or thinking of giving it a go? I’d encourage anyone to try Yoga. I think it’s a really positive thing to do for yourself. It’s a great way to shut your mind off for an hour and relax your body.
